A Million Miles

I’ve followed Don Miller’s writing since reading Blue Like Jazz several years ago.  I’ve given untold copies to friends and folks that I thought would be as blessed and challenged as I was.   Since that time I’ve also read his other books and thoroughly enjoyed them all.   I’m especially looking forward to the release of his new book A Million Miles which comes out at the end of this month.  I’m doing a book exchange with Rhett Smith from Texas – he got a copy of A Million Miles to blog about and I got a copy of Born to Run to share so VOILA, a beautiful match.

I know if you are anything at all like me, you have a stack of books to get through.    I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this book will quickly filter to the top.   As soon as I’ve read it, I’ll share!  And if you get it, read it, and share what you learned about story, life and yourself.

Michael Hyatt has done a series of interviews with Don about the new book which are great as well.   You can get to them here.

Please share the word.

As an aside – although no less important.  Anna and I support The Mentoring Project that Don runs and gives direction and passion too.   If you are so moved, check out the site.  I’m going to blog about this more in the future but wanted to mention it.

What books have you read in the past that have totally blown your mind?

Transitions

Geez, it doesn’t fail that blogging falls to the bottom of the list for me every week.    When push comes to shove, I’d rather watch a movie with the wife, or go run intervals  at the track than write in my blog.   I recognize that this might make my blogging a little less than productive but I’m working on being honest about my priorites.

Here’s the issue though.   I know that I need to blog.   I don’t because it’s hard and it means I have to work at something that’s not easy for me.   I struggle with putting words together and formulating a theme and thesis and key points.   I’d rather point you (the reader) to the guys that are already doing it better.   I think that’s why I like twitter so much.

  1. It’s very easy
  2. It’s very short
  3. It’s no committal
  4. I can share value very quickly
  5. I can still go get my run intervals in…

The point of this short rant is this.   Just because we know we ought to do something doesn’t mean that we do.   There’s this gap between what we know we ought to do and what we actually do.   Sometimes it doesn’t matter how long the list of reasons why we should do something is, we still just don’t do it.

I’m stubborn to the core.   I’m asking God to soften this in me.   I’m also asking for a greater conviction to write on this blog.   My life plan for this year was to post 3 times a week.   I’m not there.   I’d like to be though.

BLOG UPDATES

I FINALLY got my blog transferred over to WordPress.  It’s still not totally updated and I need to add pages to it but it’s looking better.   Lot’s of links and now I can focus more on the writing.  I’ve been taking notes on lots of things I want to share.

More to come.
